| BRIGHT AND SUNNY FUTURE |
|
People often ask me how all these new vineyards and wineries are going to survive. My answer is a bit flippant, but it hits on the facts: We are making new "mouths"
everyday and they will need their own supply of wine! When I was born there were around 160 Million citizens in the USA, now there are 312,783,521. Just do the
math and there's your answer.
Don't take my word for it: "James Lapsley of the Department of Viticulture and Eonology at UC
Davis investigated population and consumption trends here. He forecasts a market for 407
million cases of table wine in 2030, compared to 282 million cases sold in 2009, predicting a
125 million case increase in the U.S. market."
Brings to mind someone referring to wine as a "comfort drink", wrong answer! As Americans become more wine savvy their tastes for quality wine grows.
We here in the Umpqua Valley AVA have the resources to help provide this growing need!

| ROSEBURG VINTAGE |
|
My first month as a Vintage picker has been fun and profitable. I'll give you just one example of what's out there. I found an old corkscrew
at a local thrift store and bought it for a quarter ($.25). It looked old but nothing that unique. Turns out it was made in France and was at least
75 years old. (Presto JP...google it.) Sold it on Ebay for $165. Take that Stock Market!
Keep an eye on what I have discovered by following my new Facebook page: Roseburg Vintage.

| NEW RELEASE REPORT |
|
If you think that all the wineries simply "hibernate" over the Winter, guess again. While you may be curled up on the couch,
remember that wine is a living thing and as such is still hard at work over these rainy months. Many of them are ready for you to enjoy now!
Two new releases leap to mind. First, there's the light and breezy Merlot nouveau at Glaser Vineyard. This wine is designed to be drunk young.
Fashioned after the famous Beaujolais nouveau, it is a refreshing quaff for everyone to enjoy. Second, there is the exciting new Resiling from HillCrest Vinyard.
Dyson DeMara (winemaker) is one international dude. While in Germany last Fall he whipped up a batch of Riesling that has now arrived at the winery.
I haven't tried it yet, but first hand reports are very promising. Put it on your must try list.
When visiting any of our local wineries this time of year, please call ahead. For all the phone numbers go to my website: MY OWN SOMMELIER and click
on the Wineau Mobile link.
